For years, I asked Jc to make bread. He finally did, one afternoon, with no real plan behind it. Somewhere in the middle of it, he quietly decided to make cinnamon rolls too, just to surprise me with something sweet. That's Jc. He never shows up with only what you asked for.
Everyone who got a taste could not stop asking when they could have it again. He smiled and brushed it off the way he always does, but I could see that something had shifted in him.
That night, we talked. Really talked. About what it would look like, what we would make, what we would call it. We got excited in the way you only get when something feels genuinely yours. That night was the beginning. We kept coming back to it, kept adding to it, a little more each time, until Whorl Bakehouse stopped being an idea and became real.
A whorl, if you look it up, is just a fancy word for a spiral. You see it in a cinnamon roll curling in on itself. You see it in the way a sourdough loaf scores open into a pattern that looks almost intentional, even when it is not. It felt like the right word for something that started as one small thing and kept curling into something bigger.
Every loaf and every roll you receive is made by hand, in our home kitchen. Nothing about it is rushed, and nothing about it is generic. It's baked to order, just for you. Then it's wrapped with intention, because we want it to feel like receiving something special from someone who means it, not just something you bought. That is the experience we want for you, every single time.
Thank you for letting us bake for you.
Rose (and Jc)
